MESMEROMANIA is how the Paris press reported it. Parisians including the wife of King Louis XVI, Queen Marie Antoinette, were in love with a man by the name of Franz Friedrich Anton Mesmer (1734-1815).
Mesmer was rich, in part because he married a rich widow but also because he became a successful Viennese physician.
He lived on a well-appointed estate and hosted the then young twelve-year-old musical prodigy Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Mozart was introduced to Benjamin Franklin’s invention, the “Armonica,” by Mesmer, (who used it to ‘mesmerize’ his patients). The young Mozart composed a musical piece for Mesmer’s “Glass Armonica,” and later wrote a solo armonica piece, and a larger quintet for armonica, flute, oboe, viola and cello.
The Glass Armonica
Mesmer was the darling of Parisian Elite Society in the 1780’s, a confidant of the super rich and super powerful.

All over Paris, people were throwing themselves under trees Mesmer had ‘mesmerized.’ They would flail, convulse, scream and claim healing. Mesmer said he had a healing power in his hands, which he called “Animal Magnetism.”

Mysticism vs Scientism
This era was a period of questioning. Later historians would call it the age of enlightenment (18th century). This began a period where scientific method, as we know it today, was begun.

Anton Mesmer
Science was not yet a specialized profession, and the term Scientist was not coined until 1833. Mysticism was gradually replaced with materialistic reductionism — or what Charles Tart terms “scientism.”
Today, hands-on-healing and Mesmerism, now called “bioenergy” healing, is enjoying a renaissance of interest and investigation.

Zdenko Domančić
Domančić Bioenergy
The method of Domančić Bioenergy was developed over 30 years ago.
Curiously, Zdenko Domančić bears an uncanny likeness to Mesmer.
Its practitioners say:
“It is unique in its simplicity and effectiveness, scientifically validated and practiced all over the world. It restores health of adults and children, when other means fail.”

The energetic body field or astral field, “has been known for ages to those who see with the inner eye,” W. Q. Judge wrote, and “will one day be discovered and admitted by science.” Mesmer was only a rediscoverer, H. P. Blavatsky declared.
Further, Judge says that mesmeric phenomena and be produced by “any healthy man or woman … if they will only try.”
Energy healing is not to be confused with activities of the “Higher Self” he says, adding:
“The grosser the operator the better, for thus there is more of the mesmeric force.”

This healing art, William Q. Judge wrote in his article Mesmerism, “long antedates the days of Anton Mesmer,” and was known by many different names — though its methods and results were recognizably similar, he says.
“… sometimes the person operated on was seen to follow the hand of the operator, as if drawn like iron filings to a magnet. These are all used today by various operators.”

Distance Healing
(See post: Mind Reading Mind)
“In 1639, one hundred years before Mesmer,” Judge explains, “a book was published in Europe upon the use of mesmerism in the cure of wounds, and bore the title, The Sympathetical Powder of Edricius Mohynus of Eburo.”
“These cures, it was said, could be effected at a distance from the wound by reason of the virtue or directive faculty between that and the wound.”

A Subtle Form of Matter
“THE great question mooted,” Judge continues, “is whether there is or there is not any actual fluid thrown off by the mesmerizer. Many deny it, and nearly all hypnotizers refuse to admit it. H. P. Blavatsky declares there is such a fluid, and those who can see into the plane to which it belongs assert its existence as a subtle form of matter.

“This fluid is composed in part of the astral substance around everyone, and in part of the physical atoms in a finely divided state. By some this astral substance is called aura. But that word is indefinite, as there are many sorts of aura and many degrees of its expression.
“This aura, then, is thrown off by the mesmerizer upon his subject,” Judge says, “and is received by the latter in a department of his inner constitution — never described by any Western experimenters, because they know nothing of it.”

Since 1993 Zdenko Domančić has been teaching his method at the Bioenergy Clinic in Slovenia – the largest center of this type in Europe. Thousands of people come there from all over the world for group therapy.
Over the years, Domančić has healed over million people, having received spectacular results in every classified disease.

The success of the method (validated by scientists and medical commissions) has been reported in cases of diabetes, Parkinson’s, gangrene, Alzheimer and many other. The President of Slovenia awarded Domančić for his work.
Domančić takes part in research on HIV/AIDS at the Stanford University and in research on on cancer at the Institute of Oncology in Lubljana. Among his students and patients are among others: medical doctors, health workers, veterinarians and scientists.
The Olympic Sports Representation of Slovenia is treated at his clinic. The therapy can be practiced individually, in group sessions and by distance. It is very effective also in treatment of animals.

Theosophy of Healing
by William Q. Judge

“It is easy enough for all proper purposes to mesmerize a subject by following what is already publicly known,” Mr. Judge says, and that
“By means of certain nerve points located near the skin the whole system of nerves may be altered in an instant, even by a slight breath from the mouth at a distance of eight feet from the subject.”

“The skin includes the mucous, all membranes in the body, the arterial coats, and so on. The flesh takes in the nerves, the animal cells so-called, and the muscles. The bones stand alone.
“The blood has its cells, the corpuscles, and the fluid they float in.
“The organs, such as the liver, the spleen, the lungs, include skin, blood, and mucous. Each of these divisions and all of their subdivisions [of the Astral Body] have their own peculiar impressions and recollections, and all, together with the coördinator the brain, make up the man as he is on the visible plane.”
“These all have to do with the phenomena of mesmerism,” Judge writes, “although there are those who may think it not possible that mucous membrane or skin can give us any knowledge.
“But it is nevertheless the fact, for the sensations of every part of the body each affect cognition, and [especially] the experiences of the skin cells.”
H . P. Blavatsky on Mesmer

H. P. Blavatsky
The Theosophical Glossary, by H. P. Blavatsky, gives this explanation of Mesmer:
“The famous physician who rediscovered and applied practically that magnetic fluid in man which was called animal magnetism and since then Mesmerism. He was born in Schwaben, in 1734 and died in 1815.
“He was an initiated member of the Brotherhoods of the Fratres Lucis and of Lukshoor (or Luxor), or the Egyptian Branch of’ the latter.

Luxor
“It was the Council of “Luxor” which selected him — according to the orders of the “Great Brotherhood”— to act in the 18th century as their usual pioneer — sent in the last quarter of every century to enlighten a small portion of the Western nations in occult lore.
“It was St. Germain who supervised the development of events in this case — and later Cagliostro was commissioned to help, but having made a series of mistakes, more or less fatal, he was recalled.
“Of these three men who were at first regarded as quacks, Mesmer is already vindicated. The justification of the two others will follow in the next century.
“Mesmer founded the “Order of Universal Harmony” in 1783, in which presumably only animal magnetism was taught, but which in reality expounded the tenets of Hippocrates, the methods of the ancient Asclepieia, the Temples of Healing, and many other occult sciences.

One of the most thorough training you can get in bioenergy is by Michael Dalton – He is one of the good silent ones: See video: http://www.daltonsbio.com/
Pranic Healing (they offer free workshops so you can judge before paying) is also excellent:

Remember, what Judge said centuries ago: Anyone can do this!
You can also learn on your own. I know of some very good healers who have learned on their own. These are skills we all naturally have.
Michael Nudel’s book is one of the best for self teaching. (see link below)

No matter how you get trained, what matters is practice, practice, practice, .. Once you learn the simple skills, you need to practice… through practice you learn the intricacies no one else can teach you.
Hi,
As the filmmakers of the video “Think about it” which is shown here in parts I would like to add that this film was not made to “market ” Zdenko Domancic to the west but to be shown on the National TV of Slovenia.
Here is another film we just finished about the Zdenko Domancic method in the US.

Enjoy
Thank you Stephanie! Very glad to have this excellent feedback about Zdenko Domancic. Much appreciate the link.
Namaste!

I find myself only now reading about this after many years of being a healer. Spirit has taught me everything I know. I heal similar to this, or perhaps the same. I’ve noted a magnetic pulse that rocks the table rhythmically with some clients. I’m surprised by the comments, especially the comments about the risks associated with energy healing, and making an income. I’ve always had faith that there is no risk, and I live in a society that requires an income. This is my livelihood now.
Thanks for your comments Simon, I don’t think this is criticism of the work you are doing. Students sometimes confuse true “spiritual” help (higher mind), with bio-energy or mesmerism fields. William Q. Judge, a colleague of Mme. Blavatsky understood the distinction, as quoted in the article. He says that mesmeric phenomena can be produced by “any healthy man or woman … if they will only try.”
Energy healing is not to be confused with activities of the “Higher Self” he says, adding:“The grosser the operator the better, for thus there is more of the mesmeric force.”
Of course one has to be motivated purely, and to help others one’s priority. As you say, in this age there are no “patrons” to pay the rent, as in Mozart’s time. Mesmer was one of Mozart’s sponsors. The fields of healing, art and music are close sisters, I believe.
In her article “Practical Occultism” Blavatsky “it is the motive, and the motive alone, which makes any exercise of power become black, malignant, or white, beneficent Magic. It is impossible to employ spiritual forces if there is the slightest tinge of selfishness remaining in the operator.” This is the idea that prompt some students to talk about risks associated with energy healing.
But Blavatsky was strongly in favor of homeopathy and mesmeric clinics. In her article “Spiritual Progress” she wrote:
“Mesmerism has been called the Key to the Occult Sciences, and it has this advantage that it offers peculiar opportunities for doing good to mankind. If in each of our branches we were able to establish a homeopathic dispensary with the addition of mesmeric healing, such as has already been done with great success in Bombay, we might contribute towards putting the science of medicine in this country on a sounder basis, and be the means of incalculable benefit to the people at large.”
Hi Simon
Aside from the risks of abuse, or misuse of healer’s skills, there are risks associated with the fact that healers for the most have no medical background and as such can end up damaging a persons health (with the best of intentions). I know of a person who saw a famous healer (mentioned here) who during the session decided to remove/eliminate joint pain, completely disregarding the fact that pain is sometime preventive. In removing the pain, my friend ended up damaging his joints permanently because he used his legs in a way he would not have had he still experienced the pain. This was with a internationally renowned, seasoned healer. I don’t even want to imaging the risks with ‘novice wizards’.
The problem with energy healing is that people surrender themselves and their common sense to ‘healers’ not knowing that everyone can heal. Look how fast Reiki is spreading. Healing is a set of skills, some practice, and sometimes rituals. It needs to be regulated (like acupuncture which is also energy healing) and people need to be informed or made more aware of what is and is not possible with energy healing.
One this that is important is that healer is not equal to saint. There are healers out their who try to come across as saints. Remember Rasputin was an excellent healer.
Don;t know if you got my previous message . Sorry if repeat.
In this modern world where bioenergy healing is being marketed the major risk was so clearly foreseen in 1890 by HPB
Looking at all these healers marketing themselves and each other, though self financed research and publications, and videos etc…
They are ogfr the most in a mutually beneficial network and promote each other. People need to be better informed.
The quote from HPB is ”
“Hence the rapid growth of such movements as Christian Science, Mind Cure, Metaphysical Healing, Spiritual Healing, and so forth. All these movements represent nothing but different phases of the exercise of these growing powers, – as yet not understood and therefore but too often ignorantly misused. Understand once and for all that there is nothing “spiritual” or “divine” in any of these manifestations. The cures effected by them are due simply to the unconscious exercise of occult power on the lower planes of nature – usually of prana or life-currents. The conflicting theories of all these schools are based on misunderstood and mis-applied metaphysics, often on grotesquely absurd logical fallacies. But the one feature common to most of them, a feature which presents the most danger in the near future is this. In nearly every case the tenor of the teachings of these schools is such as to lead people to regard the healing process as being applied to the mind of the patient. Here lies the danger, for any such process – however cunningly disguised in words and hidden by false noses – is simply to psychologise the patient. In other words, whenever the healer interferes, consciously or unconsciously – with the free mental action of the person he treats, it is – Black Magic. Already these so-called sciences of “Healing” are being used to gain a livelihood. Soon some sharp person will find out that by the same process the minds of others can be influenced in many directions, and the selfish motive of personal gain and money getting having been once allowed to creep in, the one-time “healer” may be insensibly led on to use his power to acquire wealth or some other object of his desire.”
Thank you for the response Karl, and your analysis. We have done a follow-up article which is currently on the main page “The Look that Heals,” on the healer Braco you mentioned in your first comment. After reading and watching the videos, I think you’ll agree that Braco is unusual, and avoids the pitfalls Blavatsky talks about. He is not appealing to the “mind” of people, just the reverse. Nor is he attempting to “psychologize” them, or interfere with their free will– people come voluntarily and are fully conscious and present. It’s also important that Braco refuses to charge a fee, or even to accept donations, surely a major plus factor. People who have attended his brief sessions remark on the tremendous love energy they feel around them. Like Domancic, Braco considers the response of the patients to be the main ingredient of the healings, and that they are only providing the conditions for it to manifest. We didn’t include Blavatsky’s quote from the Third Message because it didn’t seem to apply to this case, but perhaps we should have to give readers a baseline to judge.
In this modern world where bioenergy healing is being marketed with films and self financed publications and research, my favorite quote from Blavatsky is:
“The cures effected by them are due simply to the unconscious exercise of occult power on the lower planes of nature – usually of prana or life-currents. The conflicting theories of all these schools are based on misunderstood and mis-applied metaphysics, often on grotesquely absurd logical fallacies. But the one feature common to most of them, a feature which presents the most danger in the near future is this. These are also risks that she foresaw so clearly !
It comes from the Third message to the American Convention 1890.
I look forward to seeing your follow-up article.
Why the focus on Zdenko Domancic? Domancic is one among many effective bioenergy healers. Another famous Croatian is Braco the gaze healer. There are actually so many. Too many to name. The best ones don’t have a video.
Eastern Europe is in love with bioenergy. There are so many of them working there. The techniques used are all mesmeric, although none of them will ever admit it, for obvious reasons. Mesmerism comes about with strokes or passes (as they are called) or with the gaze, or with the breath. Nothing more.
Any of these three skills, or any combination is used by various Eastern European healers like Zdenko Domancic, Braco or even Mietek Wirkus (Polish) who teaches these skills along with teaching how to heal using bioenergy. Remember , don’t be fooled by those who have managed to market themselves in the West.
Mesmer is alive through all these healers, for better or for worse.
We only chose Domancic because he had videos, so we could show our readers what the process looks like. I’m sure there are many good healers, as you said. Thank you for your comments Karl, very informative.
Mietek Wirkus – One of the most researched healers in the US had a video long before Domancic. Sponsored by Meninger foundation/Elmer Green. The famous Copper Wall Experiment. and more …
Check it out at http://www.mietekwirkus.com
There are many other healers with videos – see YouTube:

Mesmerism carries risks, even when applied by the most experienced healers.
Thank you Karl,
Very helpful and informative information. We certainly do not want to be biased towards one healer, and are aware there are risks in energy healing. Especially since probably none of us humans absolutely, karmically pure – or initiated by real Masters — and therefore would be liable to errors which could injure or pollute others with our energy fields.
Your information and comments will be included in a follow-up article on this subject.
Thanks again,
