Sins of the Father

scroogeTHOUSANDS of honest employees in the Enron scandal revealed in 2001, paid dearly for the misdeeds at the top of their corporate leadership.

Maybe most of the non-managerial staff were “innocent” — possibly, others knew what was going on and remained silent.

Either way the lesson is clear: No one is secure working for a company that has lost its moral compass. But, whether or not this is fair, is not the issue.

Such crimes trigger broader questions: “whose Karma is it anyway?” And: ” how can such behaviors be prevented in the future?”

If Exodus (34:6-7) was right, then

“the children and the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations” will be revisiting the same transgression.

Can events suffered by one generation really affect future generations — is there no Karmic relief? Are we to be forever haunted by the specter of an Ebenezer Scrooge?

Marley’s Ghost

“Men’s courses will foreshadow certain ends, to which, if persevered in, they must lead;but if the courses be departed from, the ends will change.”

- Charles Dickens:

(A Christmas Carol)

Invoking Karma as a haunting that plagues us unforgivably through life, makes good theater. It is a also an apt metaphor for the wake-up call of conscience. But, if Karma is to be defined as:

“…that unseen and unknown law which adjusts wisely, intelligently and equitably each effect to its cause”

How does this explain the obvious injustice done to thousands who lost their jobs and billions in pensions because of the actions of a few selfish executives?

Karmic Energy

In The Key to Theosophy, H. P. Blavatsky uses the phrase “unmerited suffering” — a puzzle to many students because it seems opposed to Karma’s fundamental axiom that

“…the particular conditions of life in which each person finds himself, are nothing more than the retributive Karma which the individual generated in a previous life.”

§

This method of karma is explained further by W. Q. Judge in Echoes from the Orient that “when a being dies, he emits, as it were, a mass of force or energy, which goes to make up the new personality when he shall be reincarnated.”

“We say that man suffers so much unmerited misery during his life, through the fault of others with whom he is associated, or because of his environment,” Blavatsky explains,

“…that he is surely entitled to perfect rest and quiet, if not bliss, before taking up again the burden of life.”

Every reincarnating person is compensated for his self-perceived ‘unmerited suffering’ during the period of between-life sleep known by the Tibetan word “Devachan” (place of the Gods), says Theosophy.

Electric Life

And she goes on to describe his compensation between lives on Earth — which we would compare to a long, sound sleep between hard days at work:

“As a man exhausted by one state of the life fluid seeks another — as, for example, when exhausted by the hot air he refreshes himself with cool water — so sleep is the shady nook in the sunlit valley of life.”

“The life current must be broken,” she says, “by changing the waking for the sleeping state. Ask a good clairvoyant to describe the aura of a person just refreshed by sleep…

[He]will be seen bathed in rhythmical vibrations of life currents — golden, blue, and rosy — these are the electrical waves of Life.”

As We Think

Anyone caught up in the outer circumstances of his life, may feel resentful of what he sees an personal injustice. But personal suffering in any one life is almost invariably due to lack of information stored in our own personal mind field.

When we are unaware of this stored karmic information, we they lack insight into the entangled workings of karmic law — and an cannot know ‘how things really are’ in this invisible field wedded to us.

Mind Field

Frontier thinker, biologist Bruce Lipton, PhD explains why the information in our belief system, our thoughts and behaviors, play such a critical role in every aspect of our life:

Thoughts Rule

Inner self-knowing is what all the enlightened Teachers of humanity have acquired, through long lifetimes of struggle. Adepts are made, not born.

Spiritually mature persons think and practice the Buddhist ethic of non-separateness. It is only through recognizing the perfect justice of karma that we grow spiritually, and find true happiness as humanity.

Thoughts rule the world, as the Buddha experienced, and taught in the Dhammapada: “All that we are is the result of what we have thought” he said— “all that we are is founded on our thoughts and formed of our thoughts.” Adding:

“If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain pursues him, as the wheel of the wagon follows the hoof of the ox that draws it.”

ξ

But, The Buddha didn’t share our notions of suffering. Poetically depicted in Edwin Arnold’s The Light of Asia, the great master of life taught a Karma-centered, optimistic, spiritual philosophy instead:

___________________

If ye lay bound upon the wheel of change,
And no way were of breaking from the chain,
The Heart of boundless Being is a curse,
The Soul of Things fell Pain.

Ye are not bound! the Soul of Things is sweet,
The Heart of Being is celestial rest;
Stronger than woe is will: that which was Good
Doth pass to Better — Best.

I, Buddh, who wept with all my brothers’ tears,
Whose heart was broken by a whole world’s woe,
Laugh and am glad, for there is Liberty!
Ho! ye who suffer! know

Ye suffer from yourselves. None else compels,
None other holds you that ye live and die,
And whirl upon the wheel, and hug and kiss
Its spokes of agony.

-Buddha

Eric Pearl, Lynn McTaggart, and Bruce Lipton explain how such a philosophy works in powerful ways to impact our health and well-being — and how what we think can even alter the structure of our DNA:

Thought Power

But Karma as described in Theosophy is a Universal Law of Harmony, and in it this broadest sense, therefore, cannot be reduced in scope to one person or one life only. Its decrees must have the greater whole of Nature and the planetary well-being in view. Blavatsky wrote:

“We must not lose sight of the fact that every atom is subject to the general law governing the whole body to which it belongs, and here we come upon the wider track of the Karmic law.”

disaster

But how? What mechanisms are involved in the “wider track of the Karmic law,” or “distributive karma,” as taught in Theosophy — and how are these implemented? As Blavatsky pointedly wrote:

“The aggregate of individual Karma becomes that of the nation to which those individuals belong, and further, that the sum total of National Karma is that of the World.”

Δ

famine

Larger fields of karma such as famines, and natural disasters are not “peculiar to the individual or even to the Nation, they are more or less universal,” Blavatsky writes,

“…and it is upon this broad line of Human interdependence that the law of Karma finds its legitimate and equable issue.”

Completed in 2003, the Human Genome Project (HGP) was a 13-year project coordinated by the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Institutes of Health.

“I am a scientist and a believer, and I find no conflict between those world views.”

This project catalyzed the multibillion-dollar U.S. biotechnology industry and fostered the development of new medical applications.

Researcher’s were poised to use the knowledge about gene variations among individuals, to diagnose, treat and someday prevent the thousands of disorders that affect us.

  1. If I ask spirit about the universal law of karma, they reply, “karma is not a bond that ties you to the past. It is free flowing, and cannot be contained within or by human thought. It is present as you are present. Every thought, attitude, action, and form, creates ripples within and without the universe.”

    The universe of consciousness?

“If you wish. If you had no language, no harmony of sense, there’d be nothing to consider, and we’d not be having this conversation, and karma would not be.”

    Be what?

“Whatever you wish it to be.”

When spirit asked me to be a healer, they also asked me to be responsible for everything. Not only my life, every life, everything: the first lie and every lie after, every act of violence, every moment of fear …

There is only one memory, and the vibrations of our past, the sins of our fathers, resonate within us all, in all life, and we repeat the patterns of the past. We have the tools and the opportunity to stop wars, heal illness, and restore a pristine environment, but we lack the will.

As we have created, we can de-create. Stop! Listen.

Oil is already an obsolete industry, we have the technologies for clean sustainable energy, but we are greedy. The toxins in our food, our homes, our media, are killing us, but still we continue, so the vibration of memory/life/our evolution is set at we wish to die, slowly, by poison, by greed, by war, by lack of will …

A young child is walking on a side walk and a car careens into her and kills her. The child is innocent and lives with a peaceful beautiful family. Karma? No we are all responsible. We designed the automobile. A one tonne piece of steel, harder than flesh. We drive too fast, we drive drunk, we drive while txting, and we drive on the streets where our children play.

These are the things spirit talk to me about. One life six billion people. One mind six billion lives.

    • Hermes Trismegistus agrees with your spirit and speaks of many such entities who are the agents of the karma we set in motion by our thoughts and actions. H. P. Blavatsky quotes Hermes in The Secret Doctrine, with added footnotes:

But let us compare with the commentary just cited the words of Hermes, the “thrice great”: —

“The creation of Life by the Sun is as continuous as his light; nothing arrests or limits it. Around him, like an army of Satellites, are innumerable choirs of genii. These dwell in the neighbourhood of the Immortals, and thence watch over human things. They fulfil the will of the gods (Karma) by means of storms, tempests, transitions of fire and earthquakes; likewise by famines and wars, for the punishment of impiety. . . .

“It is the sun who preserves and nourishes all creatures; and even as the Ideal World which environs the sensible world fills this last with the plenitude and universal variety of forms, so also the Sun, enfolding all in his light, accomplishes everywhere the birth and development of creatures.” . . .

“Under his orders is the choir of Genii, or rather the choirs, for there are many and diverse, and their number corresponds to that of the stars. Every star has its genii, good and evil by nature, or rather by their operation, for operation is the essence of the genii. . . . All these Genii preside over mundane affairs,† they shake and overthrow the constitution of States and of individuals; they imprint their likeness on our Souls, they are present in our nerves, our marrow, our veins, our arteries, and our very brain-substance . . . at the moment when each of us receives life and being, he is taken in charge by the genii (Elementals) who preside over births,‡ and who are classed beneath the astral powers (Superhuman astral Spirits.)

“They change perpetually, not always identically, but revolving in circles. They permeate by the body two parts of the Soul, that it may receive from each the impress of his own energy. But the reasonable part of the Soul is not subject to the genii; it is designed for the reception of (the) God,* who enlightens it with a sunny ray. Those who are thus illumined are few in number, and from them the genii abstain: for neither genii nor Gods have any power in the presence of a single ray of God.† But all other men, both soul and body, are directed by genii, to whom they cleave, and whose operations they affect. . .The genii have then the control of mundane things and our bodies serve them as instruments. . .”

      ====================================================

† And “Gods” or Dhyanis, too, not only the genii or “guided Forces.”

‡ The meaning of this is that as man is composed of all the Great Elements: Fire, Air, Water, Earth and Ether — the elementals which belong respectively to these Elements feel attracted to man by reason of their co-essence. That element which predominates in a certain constitution will be the ruling element throughout life. For instance, if man has a preponderance of the Earthly, gnomic element, the gnomes will lead him towards assimilating metals — money and wealth, and so on. “Animal man is the son of the animal elements out of which his Soul (life) was born, and animals are the mirrors of man,” says Paracelsus (De Fundamento Sapientiae). Paracelsus was cautious, and wanted the Bible to agree with what he said, and therefore did not say all.

      * The God in man and often the incarnation of a God, a highly Spiritual Dhyan Chohan in him, besides the presence of his own seventh Principle.

† Now, what “god” is meant here? Not God “the Father,” the anthropomorphic fiction; for that god is the Elohim collectively, and has no being apart from the Host. Besides, such a god is finite and imperfect. It is the high Initiates and Adepts who are meant here by those men “few in number.” And it is precisely those men who believe in “gods” and know no “God,” but one Universal unrelated and unconditioned Deity.

The above, save a few sectarian points, represents that which was a universal belief common to all nations till about a century or so back. It is still as orthodox in its broad outlines and features among pagans and Christians alike, if one excepts a handful of materialists and men of Science. (The Secret Doctrine 1: 294-5)
