The aim of the 2016 Conference is to explore the active connection between Theosophical teachings and social responsibility, focusing on study and cross-pollination.

Guided by the principles and metaphysical perspectives given in The Secret Doctrine and other writings of H.P.B. and those of her close co-workers, conference participants are going to discuss how fundamental ethical questions reflected in contemporary social conditions might be answered.

– How might students of Theosophy understand and practice social responsibility?

– What thoughts and deeds might help us reduce suffering and improve the quality of life for all that lives?

– Do the teachings of Theosophy, in particular the messages of H. P. Blavatsky, indicate a duty to help others?

During the conference a number of themes relating to Social Responsibility will be introduced in short talks and further discussed in study circles. The results will be shared in plenary sessions.

View the Study Circles program here.

Registrants will receive a code with which they can access a form where they can enroll for the study circles of their interest. For each study circle theme a selection of reading material will be made available for participants to prepare themselves ahead of the conference.

The location and program of the Conference, at La Casa de Maria, will provide an inspiring and regenerative opportunity for both formal and informal discussion in a community of Theosophical learning.

From H. P. Blavatsky

HPB

“It is well known that the first rule of the [Theosophical] society is to carry out the object of forming the nucleus of a universal brotherhood. The practical working of this rule was explained by those who laid it down, to the following effect:-

“HE WHO DOES NOT PRACTICE ALTRUISM; HE WHO IS NOT PREPARED TO SHARE HIS LAST MORSEL WITH A WEAKER OR POORER THAN HIMSELF; HE WHO NEGLECTS TO HELP HIS BROTHER MAN, OF WHATEVER RACE, NATION, OR CREED, WHENEVER AND WHEREVER HE MEETS SUFFERING, AND WHO TURNS A DEAF EAR TO THE CRY OF HUMAN MISERY;

HE WHO HEARS AN INNOCENT PERSON SLANDERED, WHETHER A BROTHER THEOSOPHIST OR NOT, AND DOES NOT UNDERTAKE HIS DEFENSE AS HE WOULD UNDERTAKE HIS OWN – IS NO THEOSOPHIST.”

Methods of
Theosophical Work

by William Q. Judge

I have noticed a disposition on the part of some members to often object to the methods of others or to their plans on the ground that they are unwise, or not suitable, or what not. These objections are not put in a spirit of discord, but more often arise merely from a want of knowledge of the working of the laws which govern our efforts. H.P.B. always said – following the rules laid down by high teachers – that no proposal for theosophical work should be rejected or opposed provided the proposer has the sincere motive of doing good to the movement and to his fellows.

But no one method is to be insisted on. Each man is a potency in himself, and only by working on the lines which suggest themselves to him can he bring to bear the forces that are his. We should deny no man and interfere with none; for our duty is to discover what we ourselves can do without criticizing the actions of another. The laws of karmic action have much to do with this.

We interfere for a time with good results to come when we attempt to judge according to our own standards the methods of work which a fellow member proposes for himself. Ramifying in every direction are the levers that move and bring about results, some of those levers – absolutely necessary for the greatest of results – being very small and obscure. They are all of them human beings, and hence we must carefully watch that by no word of ours the levers are obstructed.

If we attend strictly to our own duty all will act in harmony, for the duty of another is dangerous for us. Therefore if any member proposes to spread the doctrines of theosophy in a way that seems wise to him, wish him success even if his method be one that would not commend itself to you for your own guidance.

The Harm of Radical Religions, or the Pagan Christ

sun-hero-by-christos-magganasRELIGIOUS  apologists ignore facts about the true origins of their dogmas, especially Christians, rather than admit to cleverly made-up history.

With the possible exception of evangelicals, the doom of dogmatic religious organizations is already well progressed.

Recognizing this, the cover of a 2009 Newsweek featured an article by Jon Meacham titled “The Decline and Fall of Christian America.”

The subhead declares: “The percentage of self-identified Christians has fallen 10 points in the past two decades. How that statistic explains who we are now — and what, as a nation, we are about to become.” And this was a study done seven years ago!

So popular was the article, bloggers noted, it was forced to disable comments. Jon Meacham’s controversial theme, The End of Christian America, reportedly received over 5,000 comments making the Newsweek site “wobbly.” Religion and religious ideas have always tended towards radicalism, and are still highly charged in the USA, especially with current rise in Islamic extremism.

For all the bloody details see columnist Colleen Raezler’s article “For the media, it’s un-Holy Week” where she  commented the “The Washington Post/Newsweek blog ‘On Faith’ featured a post that belittled the significance of Jesus’ death and resurrection.”

“The Discovery Channel aired a documentary that painted Jesus as little more than an opportunistic politician who caught a bad break in a trial.”

In radical Islam such a statement today about Muhammad might cost you your head and maybe several other body parts.

Violent Extremists

Theosophy’s chief exponent. H. P. Blavatsky, though, never softened her criticism of the faults especially of what she called “Churchianity.”  She alerts readers to her opinions in her first major work Isis Unveiled (Preface Vol 2):

“is in particular directed against theological Christianity, the chief opponent of free thought.” One can only dare imagine what her comments might be today.

One of Mme. Blavatsky’s Teachers, an Eastern Master, in a highly relevant statement wrote: “the followers of Christ and those of Mahomet are cutting each others’ throats in the names of and for the greater glory of their respective myths.” (Mahatma Letters) This was written in the late 19th Century! Religious bigotry and violence are apparently very difficult to eliminate.

In January 2015,  11 people were killed and as many wounded at a hate shooting against the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, a media organization that lampooned Islam the Prophet Muhammad. (Wikipedia)
H. P.
Blavatsky’s Master in “Our Ideas on Evil” prophetically wrote:

“I will point out the greatest, the chief cause of nearly two thirds of the evils that pursue humanity ever since that cause became a power. It is religion under whatever form and in whatsoever nation.”

“It is the sacerdotal caste, the priesthood and the churches; it is in those illusions that man looks upon as sacred … that multitude of evils which is the great curse of humanity and that almost overwhelms mankind.”

The Inquisition

The Inquisition

“Ignorance created Gods and cunning took advantage of the opportunity. Look at India and look at Christendom and Islam, at Judaism and Fetichism. It is priestly imposture that rendered these Gods so terrible to man;

“it is religion that makes of him the selfish bigot, the fanatic that hates all mankind out of his own sect without rendering him any better or more moral for it.”

crown-of-thorns

“It is belief in God and Gods that makes two-thirds of humanity the slaves of a handful of those who deceive them under the false pretense of saving them.”

Defying Charlatans of Gravity and The Big Bang, Part 2

Cirque du Soleil Dralion

RULING the Earth is not the god gravity, as taught by modern science, but something much more powerful, and even closer to home.

That something is the universal Tibetan god “Fohat”or electro-magnetism, defined by Theosophy as a conscious electro-spiritual power.

In defiance of science’s gravity, magnetism and electricity are in face the real universal forces, twins underpinning nature and the infinite cosmos — from fireflies to huge galaxies, to the infinitesimal atom.

But mainstream physicists are still stuck on gravity to support their dubious ‘standard model.’  Science still insists that gravity alone (a secondary force according to Theosophy) runs the entire universe — yet, as with magnetism, science really understands very little about either.

“It seems that the Sun does not even ‘respect’ gravity,” the Thunderbolts site reports: “The mass of charged particles expelled by the Sun as the solar wind continues to accelerate beyond Mercury, Venus, and Earth.

Solar prominences and coronal mass ejections do not obey gravity either. Nor does sunspot migration.”

“Nor does the movement of the atmosphere, since the upper layers rotate faster than the lower, reversing the situation predicted by theory,” Thunderbolts demonstrates, “while the equatorial atmosphere completes its rotation more rapidly than the atmosphere at higher latitudes, another reversal of predicted motions.”

But back to Earth, a Serbian schoolgirl amazed doctors  with her astonishing magnetic hands, which, like our Sun — following the Hermetic axiom,”as above, so below” — possess gravity defying power.  As to the Sun we are dependent for life on the “little sun” in our bodies — the heart.

Just as there is a regular circulation of the ‘blood’ or life fluid throughout our solar system, the Sun is the heart of the solar system.

It is “the same as the circulation of the blood in the human body or life,” says occult science (SD 1:541) — “the Sun contracting as rhythmically at every return of it, as the human heart does.”

“Everything in the universe follows the rule of analogy, Blavatsky assures her students in The Secret Doctrine (1:177). “Man is the microcosm of the Universe. That which takes place on the spiritual plane repeats itself on the Cosmic plane.

“Concretion follows the lines of abstraction; corresponding to the highest must be the lowest; the material to the spiritual.”

Defying Charlatans of Gravity and The Big Bang, Part 1

Casimir-Effect

The Casimir Effect

“THERE are many false ideas that are derived from Big Bang dogma. But the point is simple: This dismal, depressing, lifeless, soulless, disconnected, Godless, pessimistic goo is what allegedly constitutes our reality.

“Although this reality is promoted by the editors at Wikipedia, those gatekeepers did not sanctify Albert Einstein or contrive the Big Bang.

“This propaganda is perpetuated by establishment cosmologists who reside in the ivory towers of big government and big academia. Intellectually these have been reduced to vested interests that have a lot to lose! Decades-long academic reputations, self-effacing public proclamations, thousands of peer-reviewed PhD theses, and billions in research grants funded by the taxpayers are all at stake.

“But like their gravity-only theory, the Big Bang charlatans are rife to keeping the taxpayer and layperson disconnected from the emerging reality wrought by hard scientific data. The latest scientific discoveries that refute the gatekeepers emerge from a discipline called plasma cosmology.”

Defying Gravity

“What is finally that invisible and intangible God in whom we should believe on blind faith?” asks H. P. Blavatsky in The Secret Doctrine Vol. 1:490 — thus denying the charlatan gravity:

“Astronomers who see in gravitation an easy-going solution for many things, and an universal force which allows them to calculate thereby planetary motions, care little about the Cause of Attraction. They call Gravity a law, a cause in itself. We call the forces acting under that name effects, and very secondary effects, too. One day it will be found that the scientific hypothesis does not answer after all…”

flame-of-matter

“Matter (or nature) acting by her own peculiar energy,” writes a Master, “must have always existed — its materials ever changing form, combinations and properties, but its principles or elements being absolutely indestructible.

— In other words we believe in MATTER alone, in matter as visible nature and matter in its invisibility as the invisible omnipresent omnipotent Proteus with its unceasing motion which is its life, and which nature draws from herself since she is the great whole outside of which nothing can exist.”

“Its motion is due to the force
which is inherent in itself.”

Force and Matter

“We believe in the much laughed at phlogiston (see article “What is force and what is matter?“), and in what some natural philosophers would call nisus the incessant though perfectly imperceptible (to the ordinary senses) motion or efforts one body is making on another — the pulsations of inert matter — its life.”
