WINTER in the northern hemisphere marks the annual return of a potent and ancient solar festival.
Indeed, “turnings of the sun” is an old phrase, used by both Hesiod and Homer.
The novelist Alan Furst has one of his characters nicely observe, “the day the sun is said to pause,” recalls contributor Richard Cohen in a NY Times Op-Ed:
“Pleasing, that idea as though the universe stopped for a moment to reflect, took a day off from work. One could sense it, time slowing down.”
But the cyclic work of the Mother matrix never ceases. “The real substance of the concealed (Sun) is a nucleus of Mother substance,” H. P. Blavatsky wrote in The Secret Doctrine Vol. 1, p. 290:
It is the heart and the matrix of all the living and existing Forces in our solar universe.
“It is the Kernel from which proceed to spread on their cyclic journeys all the Powers that set in action the atoms in their functional duties, and the focus within which they again meet in their SEVENTH ESSENCE every eleventh year.”
Dawn of the Sun
I am the dawn, I’m the new day begun
I bring you the morning, I bring you the sun
I hold back the night and I open the skies
I give light to the world, I give sight to your eyes
From the first of all time, until time is undone
Forever and ever and ever and ever
And I am the dawn and the sky and the sun
I am one with the One, and I am the dawn
I am the sky and the dawn and the sun
I am the sky and the new day begun
I am the sky and the dawn and the sun
“In the nearly ten years since the website Thunderbolts.info has gone online,” the Editors write, “perhaps the most common request we’ve received from readers is to address the innumerable misrepresentations of the Electric Universe hypothesis,” an ancient Theosophical teaching.
“Newcomers to the theory face an arduous task of sorting through the considerable confusion created by pseudo skeptics. It’s not reasonable to expect proponents of ‘mainstream’ theory to immediately embrace the EU — but it is reasonable to ask that its critics make the effort to learn what the theory actually proposes before loudly denouncing it. Unfortunately, the most vocal opponents of the EU have consistently failed on this front.”
“The Sun is the store-house of Vital Force, which is the Noumenon of Electricity,” Blavatsky insisted, and
…it is from its mysterious, never-to-be-fathomed depths, that issue those life currents which thrill through Space, as through the organisms of every living thing on Earth.
“Moreover, they did not believe what our modern science teaches us, namely, that light and heat proceed from our sun…”
“If ever this theory of the Sun-Force being the primal cause of all life on earth and motion in heaven is accepted, and if that other far bolder one of Herschell — about certain organisms in the Sun — is accepted even as a provisional hypothesis, then will our teachings be vindicated, and esoteric allegory shown to have anticipated Modern Science by millions of years.”
“It is the Sun-fluids or Emanations that impart all motion and awaken all into life, in the Solar System. It is attraction and repulsion, but not as understood by modern physics and according to the law of gravity; but in harmony with the laws of Manvantaric motion designed from the early Sandhya, the Dawn of the rebuilding and higher reformation of the System. These laws are immutable; but the motion of all the bodies, which motion is diverse and alters with every minor Kalpa — is regulated by the Movers, the Intelligences within the Cosmic Soul. Are we so very wrong in believing all this?”
H. P. Blavatsky and her Adept Teachers were far ahead of their time in teaching an electromagnetic universe, eschewing the materialistic gravity-based theories.
“If the limited space of the present work would permit,” Blavatsky said, “we might easily show that none of the ancients, the sun-worshippers included, regarded our visible sun otherwise than as an emblem of their metaphysical invisible central sun-god.”
“All is impermanent in man except the pure bright essence of Alaya. Man is its crystal ray; a beam of light immaculate within, a form of clay material upon the lower surface. That beam is thy life-guide and thy true Self, the Watcher and the silent Thinker, the victim of thy lower Self.”
H. P. Blavatsky – The Voice of the Silence, Fragment III
What the spiritual eye sees inwardly in the world of thought and mind, it sees outwardly in the world of crystals.
Friedrich Froebel, The Crystal
“The Adepts point to a “spiritual, central sun, whose rays are all-pervading and unceasing, the eternal and boundless life-giver. HE the Point; the centre (which is everywhere) of the circle (which is nowhere), the ethereal, spiritual fire, the soul and spirit of the all-pervading, mysterious ether; the despair and puzzle of the materialist, who will someday find that that which causes the numberless cosmic forces to manifest themselves in eternal correlation is but a divine electricity, or rather galvanism, and that the sun is but one of the myriad magnets disseminated through space — a reflector.”
“The sun has no more heat in it than the moon or the space-crowding host of sparkling stars. That there is no gravitation in the Newtonian sense,* but only magnetic attraction and repulsion; and that it is by their magnetism that the planets of the solar system have their motions regulated in their respective orbits by the still more powerful magnetism of the sun, not by their weight or gravitation. This and much more they may learn; but, until then we must be content with being merely laughed at, instead of being burned alive for impiety, or shut up in an insane asylum.” (Isis Unveiled 1:271)
A Magnetic Cosmos
“The sun is but one of the myriad magnets disseminated through space,” and “has no more heat in it than the moon or the space-crowding host of sparkling stars.”
“There is no gravitation in the Newtonian sense,” Blavatsky continues, “but only magnetic attraction and repulsion.
“It is by their magnetism that the planets of the solar system have their motions, regulated in their respective orbits by the still more powerful magnetism of the sun, not by their weight or gravitation.”
“This and much more they may learn,” Blavatsky wrote:
Until then we must be content with being merely laughed at, instead of being burned alive for impiety, or shut up in an insane asylum.
Complementing Blavatsky’s occult science, two modern plasma cosmologists David Talbott and Wallace Thornhill posit an electric noumenon, or Electric Universe (EU), which is, unsurprisingly, still controversial and rejected by the mainstream.
Heart of the Solar System
“The Sun is the heart of the Solar World (System) and its brain is hidden behind the (visible) Sun,” says The Secret Doctrine:
“From thence, sensation is radiated into every nerve-centre of the great body, and the waves of the life-essence flow into each artery and vein … the planets are its limbs and pulses.”
“Occult philosophy denies that the Sun is a globe in combustion,” Blavatsky writes, “but defines it simply as a world, a glowing sphere, the real Sun being hidden behind, and the visible being only its reflection, its shell.
The Nasmyth willow leaves … are the reservoirs of solar vital energy, she says, “the vital electricity that feeds the whole system …
The invisible sun is in reality, Blavatsky says, the storehouse of our little Kosmos — self-generating its vital fluid, and ever receiving as much as it gives out.”
The visible Sun is only a window cut into the real Solar palace and presence, which reflects, however, faithfully the interior work.
David Talbott and Wallace Thornhill, Clip 2:
“The sun is but one of the myriad magnets disseminated through space,” Blavatsky explained in Isis Unveiled — “a reflector.”
The sun has no more heat in it than the moon or the space-crowding host of sparkling stars.
The True Sun is what Blavatsky calls “The Central Spiritual Sun,” of which our sun is a “lens” or reflection, a focus of energy.”
Not one of the ancients, the sun-worshippers included, regarded our visible sun otherwise than as an emblem of their metaphysical invisible central sun-god.
“Moreover, they did not believe what our modern science teaches us, namely, that light and heat proceed from our sun, and that it is this planet which imparts all life to our visible nature.”
There is no gravitation in the Newtonian sense,” Blavatsky writes in Isis Unveiled, “but only magnetic attraction and repulsion.”
“… and that it is by their magnetism that the planets of the solar system have their motions regulated in their respective orbits by the still more powerful magnetism of the sun, not by their weight or gravitation.”
David Talbott and Wallace Thornhill, Clip 3:
The Central Sun
“Theosophy holds that as our solar system orbits the centre of the galaxy, it also revolves around a ‘central sun’ or ‘raja-sun’ (just as the moon orbits the earth while both of them orbit our own sun).

Astronomers are gradually catching up with Blavatsky and her Masters, and have discovered a powerful magnetic field at the galactic center. The UCLA News Room stated:
“It has the energy equivalent
of 1,000 supernovae.”
More incredible, the UCLA article says that “Astronomers report:
“… an unprecedented elongated double helix nebula near the center of our Milky Way galaxy.”
“We see two intertwining strands wrapped around each other as in a DNA molecule,” said Mark Morris, a UCLA professor of physics and astronomy.
Nobody has ever seen anything like that before in the cosmic realm. … What we see indicates a high degree of order.
The Winter Solstice
By Cameron Broughton
Today we celebrate the Winter Solstice, the longest night and shortest day of the year. To many people in the western world, this tradition has been released as other traditions have taken its place.
For some, the Celtic calendar or Pagan practices are coming to life again with renewed meaning. As we are in exciting times of change and poised for evolutionary shifts in consciousness this winter solstice has more meaning for us than meets the eye.
As with many traditions, religious or spiritual in nature, their original purpose can get lost in repeated actions that are routinely practiced from generation to generation.
When this happens it can create an imbalance because the thread of connection has been lost.
One of the beautiful gifts of the Winter Solstice is the opportunity to pause, to take a breath and go inward. The solstice is the still point where the sun setting on the horizon takes a breath from moving in one direction to move back in the other.
They used this time to take stock of the previous year to see what worked and what didn’t, releasing what no longer served them and visualizing dreams for their coming year as they celebrated the turn toward the growing light.
As we review our lives we are reconnected with what matters to us most by our inward journey to the knowing still point within us that is our inner wisdom and higher self. Rekindling the light within as the days grow longer brings us to spring and new beginnings.
We are grateful more than ever to have the opportunity to know ourselves, to create anew and to be in harmony with the natural cycle of our world. It is from this place that we can authentically create a positive course of action having released what no longer works. This is important for us not only personally but globally as well.

Gayatri – the Rig-Veda
“Om Bhur Buvaha
SuvahaThath Savithur Varenyam
Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi
Dhiyo Yonaha Prachodayat”
“That which giveth sustenance to the Universe and to ourselves, from which all doth proceed, and unto which all must return — That Thou Art.
“In the golden vase of thine earthly body, may the pure Light of the Spiritual Sun shine forth, that thou may’st know the Truth, and do thy whole duty, on the journey back to the Sacred Seat!”
Eating The Sun
Today, with the help of the Internet, the revived practice of sun gazing is gathering global momentum.
In many ancient civilizations, from the Incas and Aztecs to the Greeks and Egyptians this practice was exclusive to only the high priests and forbidden for ‘ordinary’ people.
Modern-day sungazers claim a multitude of health benefits including better eyesight, enhanced vitality, weight loss and, in some more profound cases, a complete loss of the desire and need to eat food.
The main theory of how this is possible focuses on the stimulation of the pineal gland from direct sunlight entering the brain via the eye – the only external expression of the brain – and traveling along the retinal-hypothalamic tract.
A Theosophical Master wrote: “We believe in the much laughed at phlogiston (see article “What is force and what is matter?“), and in what some natural philosophers would call nisus the incessant though perfectly imperceptible (to the ordinary senses) motion or efforts one body is making on another — the pulsations of inert matter — its life.”
“Matter (or nature) acting by her own peculiar energy,
must have always existed — its materials ever changing form, combinations and properties, but its principles or elements being absolutely indestructible.
The connection between phlogiston and plasma can also be seen in another letter from The Master K.H.:
“What are those long white filaments twisted like so many ropes, of which the penumbra of the Sun is made up? What the central part that is seen like a huge flame ending in fiery spires, and the transparent clouds, or rather vapours formed of delicate threads of silvery light, that hangs over those flames — what — but magneto-electric aura — the phlogiston of the Sun?”
