The Sacred Animal Souls in Nature

A Light at The Center

HALLOWEEN is an annual holiday observed on October 31, primarily in the United States, Canada, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.

Known also as a harvest festival, called Samhain (“Summer’s End”), it is rooted in Celtic polytheism. The word is also the Irish and Scottish Gaelic name for November.

It was the beginning of a “darker” season on Earth, with less sunlight and shorter days. In place of the usual psychic horrors and scary costumes, we chose instead to consider the symbol of an inner spiritual sun, symbolized by a flaming candle placed inside the pumpkin.

The spiritual sun consciousness manifests, by degrees, and is the inheritance of all kingdoms of nature as befits the plan of their particular hierarchy — from an atom to a star — not humankind alone.

Samhain, origin of Halloween, is similar to the Gothic samana, and the Sanskrit sámana — the Hindu God Krishna, symbol of the Higher Self, who incarnates cyclically at mankind’s darkest times. The whole of nature, visible and invisible, benefits from these cyclic, wisely appointed spiritual impulses.

In the Bhagavad-Gita (IV:31), Krishna assures his disciple Arjuna that as a world benefactor he is reborn to nature and humanity. “I produce myself among creatures whenever there is a decline of virtue and an insurrection of vice and injustice in the world,” says Krishna, “and thus

I incarnate from age to age for the preservation of the just, the destruction of the wicked, and the establishment of righteousness.”

It is only those who are called selfish Buddhas, the “Pratyekas,” who remain in the their selfish state desiring only personal salvation, and who decline to reach out to help suffering humanity.  The Voice of the Silence, Fragment II, The Two Paths explains:

“He who becomes Pratyeka-Buddha makes his obeisance but to his Self. The Bodhisattva who has won the battle, who holds the prize within his palm, yet says in his divine compassion: ‘For others’ sake this great reward I yield’ — accomplishes the greater Renunciation. A Saviour of the World is he.”

Our daily sleeping and waking cycles are strengthened by the universal impulse of the Spiritual Sun which nightly transports us to our true home, the Higher Self. This is during Dreamless Sleep, a state “in which even criminals commune through the higher nature with spiritual beings, and enter into the spiritual plane,” wrote W. Q. Judge in his article: Three Planes of Human Life.

Animals have many dream states too, and dreamless states where they commune consciously or unconsciously in varying degrees, depending on the kingdom to which they belong, with the spiritual hierarchies of their particular degree. For human beings, W. Q. Judge wrote:

“It is the great spiritual reservoir by means of which the tremendous momentum toward evil living is held in check. And because it is involuntary with them, it is constantly salutary in its effect.” 

In an ideal world, perfect harmony and balance between man and nature would be the norm. Thus, the keynote of Mme. Blavatsky’s worldview was the just and moral treatment of all the beings in nature, the First Object of the Theosophical Society, Universal Brotherhood. (Our Three Objects)

This universal unconditional Principle of Theosophy is expressed in The Secret Doctrine, Summing Up #5, which states that “everything in the Universe, throughout all its kingdoms, is conscious,” and is

“endowed with a consciousness of its own kind and on its own plane of perception.”

Consequently, Mme. Blavatsky was adamant in opposing animal cruelty. She spoke out forcefully against sport hunting, foxes, birds and big game, and most strongly against vivisection — animals in biological experiments.

“If these humble lines could make a few readers seriously turn their thoughts to all the horrors of vivisection,” she declared, “the writer would be content.”

MANY scientists like to think that science already understands the ways of the natural world.

For them the fundamental questions are answered, leaving only the details to be filled in.

The numerous impressive achievements of modern science seem to support this confident attitude.

But in recent research, including his own studies, frontier biologist Rupert Sheldrake believes otherwise.

His experiments reveal jaw dropping problems at the heart of physics, cosmology, biology, medicine and psychology. Similar to H. P. Blavatsky’s complaints about 19th century modern science.  Not much has changed since then, it would appear. Science still refuses to acknowledge “the soul of things.”

Resolutely dismissive of paranormal findings or brain-free consciousness, traditional science asserts that matter is the gold standard. But even great authorities especially in modern science may be found to err, and scientific dicta are frequently influenced more by personal prejudice than rigorous research.

A pure impartial science always weighs “the laboriously acquired knowledge of the senses with the intuitive omniscience of the Spiritual divine Soul,” said H. P. Blavatsky, world Theosophy teacher.

As Hermes believed so does Theosophy, she wrote in The Secret Doctrine 1:296 that “knowledge differs from sense which is only of the physical world — but Knowledge is the end of sense which is only the illusion of our physical brain and its intellect.”

It is “self-contradictory, and simply absurd — from a scientific point of view, as much and even more than from the occult aspect of the esoteric knowledge.”

When the high priests of material science, she wrote, “resolve consciousness into a secretion from the grey matter of the brain, and everything else in nature into a mode of motion, we protest against the doctrine as being un-philosophical.” [And unscientific]

In a formal, conclusive and hilarious experiment he calls “Telephone Telepathy,” Rupert Sheldrake demonstrates that consciousness can indeed fly away on its own from one mind into another!

Our Kabalistic Mother, the Astral Virgin

THE most compelling, principal teaching of Theosophy is the Astral Light, an all-pervasive invisible force field — a space-filling energy matrix.

This vital invisible substance serves as a universal matrix for the patterns of everything in our physical world.

In its moral aspect, this force is a giant reflector of all the thoughts, feelings and actions of every person, and that of humanity as a whole.

It is on the basis of these stored images and influences (Sanskrit “skandhas”), that karma is calculated by the Great Law and justly meted out from age to age, life to life, individually and collectively.

Applied to Nature, the form of an oak tree, for example, is patterned after a universal oak tree likeness archived in the astral matrix as a universal prototype. This astral sea of images may be what Biologist Rupert Sheldrake calls the “morphogenetic field.”

In Theosophy this matrix is shown to be the missing link of science in every field.

“The whole issue of the quarrel between the profane and the esoteric sciences,” Mme. Blavatsky insists in The Secret Doctrine (2:149), “depends upon the belief in, and demonstration of, the existence of an astral body within the physical, the former independent of the latter.”

 She also supplied a practical application in her article 1888 noting: “The astral life of the earth is young and strong between Christmas and Easter. Those who form their wishes now will have added strength to fulfill them consistently.

“The reason this would be true is that the active image-field or astral matrix is the mystical progeny of the omnipresent, spiritual and dynamic substratum of the entire universe. It impacts everything, not missing a single atom.

The major effect of such a major, universal substratus, as psi researcher Dean Radin notes in his book Entangled Minds, is that

“we occasionally have numinous feelings of connectedness with loved ones at a distance.”

“The idea of the universe as an interconnected whole is not new,” he says, “for millennia it’s been one of the core assumptions of Eastern philosophies. What is new is that Western science is slowly beginning to realize that some elements of that ancient lore might be correct.”

The spiritual substance supporting universal inter-connectivity is called Ākāśa in Sanskrit, a word meaning “aether” (in both its elemental and metaphysical sense.) The Ākāśa, with its alter-ego the Astral Light, are the substance of ‘out-of-body’ experiences, and underlie the entire spectrum from the spiritual to mundane psychic experiences (PSI).

The Astral Light is the primeval storehouse and reflector of all the thoughts, ideas, feelings and acts uploaded from the Earthly doings of self-conscious humanity.

The scientific experiments of the Global Consciousnesses Project have demonstrated that the simultaneous force of many minds focused on one event, produce measurable effects in scientific instruments—facilitated by, Theosophists believe, by this same ubiquitous, universal mediating astral substance.

Temples of Initiation

LONG before the digital age, before computers, smart phones and social media were vogue, ancients sages had wirelessly transmitted secrets to their disciples.

They introduced to them to the invisible realms of nature and mind, unknown to the general public.

That realm of nature served and still serves as a living psychic interface between man’s consciousness and living forces of spiritual influence.

That same knowledge was revealed to the world by Mother of the New Age H. P. Blavatsky in her first major work — Isis Unveiled: A Master Key to the Mysteries of Ancient and Modern Science and Theology — a work begun in 1875 with the founding of the Theosophical Society in New York City.

The first 1,000 copies of Isis Unveiled were sold in 10 days, and received numerous favorable reviews. The New York Herald called it “one of the remarkable productions of the century,” while The New York Independent said “The appearance of erudition is stupendous.”

The Egyptian goddess Isis is the ideal mother and wife as well as the patron of nature and magic. Originally Issa, the goddess Virgin-Mother, personified nature, according to The Theosophical Glossary, in Egyptian or Koptic Uasari, the female reflection of Uasar or Osiris. She is the “woman clothed with the sun” of the land of Chemi [Egypt].

Isis commanded unseen entities of immense influence. It was an invisible world of nature not copyrighted by Microsoft or Intel, a knowledge first transmitted by Nature’s hidden all-wise spiritual overseers, encoded with evolutionary blueprints for the advancement of spiritual humanity.

The invisible entities, called “elementals” or “elementaries” in modern Theosophy, are  orbs of influence in the sense that they attach to thoughts and emotions. They preserve hidden patterns of intention secreting them upon persons to whom they become unknowingly attached.

They are the preservers and deliverers of Karma. Many have experienced an unmistakable sense of prior knowing a certain person or place—though the encounter is seemingly, in this life,  for “the first time.” The déjà vu occurs probably with a push from those unseen entities.

A Shaman Levitates

levitationMAINSTREAM science looking for the source of our consciousness, insist its origin must be located in the physical brain.

Such scientists are certain that all cognition arises from the activity of neurons attached to specific structures, which have fixed locations in the head.

Yet many credible scientific minds today think otherwise, and dispute the idea that our human consciousness arises from physical neuronal structures.

Open minded science should always be willing to pursue truth wherever it leads, even to consider that consciousness itself may be an independent entity from the physiology through which it manifests and operates. It’s only stating the obvious: automation takes us only so far – cars need drivers, and airplanes must have pilots.

But the mainstream clan still labels psi studies, pointing to a stand-alone self, as ‘junk science’ no matter how rigorous the experiments. The results no matter how conclusive, are ignored. They are generally not accepted for publication in prestigious journals which would lend them credibility.

Parapsychologists risk being minimized and shunned — and their careers are often stalled as funding sources dry up.

“We live in an age of prejudice, dissimulation and paradox,” steamed Blavatsky in her article A Paradoxical World, “wherein, like dry leaves caught in a whirlpool, we are tossed helpless, hither and thither, ever struggling between our honest convictions and fear of that cruelest of tyrants—PUBLIC OPINION.”

Yet, poised fearlessly at the frontiers of psi research are scientific groups such as the respected Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) in Petaluma, California, and the Institute of HeartMath in Boulder Creek.

These researchers, and others, like NES energy medicine, are willing to take a leap in pursuit of the fast-moving “soul of things” that other scientists prefer ignoring.

Such investigations were formerly the exclusive precinct of ancient, uncanny intuitives and seers. Today there are many qualified scientific investigators on the hunt for answers to the puzzling problems of consciousness that stymie mainstream science.

Meeting an Angel

THE  surreal landscape of Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking-Glass has Alice wondering what the world is like on the other side of a mirror.

To her surprise, Alice is able to pass into a fantastic astral world and experience an alternate existence.

A puzzled Alice discovers a book with looking-glass poetry called “Jabberwocky,” which she can read only by holding it up to a mirror.

To Theosophical students, Carroll’s imaginative invention is an unambiguous reminder of “the astral light” of occultism, a universal storage drive where original images of all things are seen in reverse of their visible projections on our terrestrial plane.

In 1871, mediumship and table-tipping were all the rage, detailed in Mitch Horowitz’s recent book Occult America. Understandably, Carroll’s sequel to Alice in Wonderland was wildly popular at the time.

Clairvoyance and psychic powers have always fascinated the public. But then, as now, they were considered nonsensical by mainstream scientists.

“Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast,” the White Queen confides to Alice.

Once of interest only to ghost-hunters, and the derided science of parapsychology, “The Big 5”: Precognition, Telepathy, Clairvoyance, Psychokinesis and Healing (known collectively as “psi”), are now being noticed by the rank-and-file psychological and neuroscience community.
